The core team is working hard on better release automation, including CLI scripts, AI skills, and updated documentation.
Why is this work important? A minor WordPress release—including every security patch—can touch 20+ branches, and much of the work is manual and error-prone.
Example tasks include: tag the older WordPress version branches, draft a HelpHub page per version, check the SVN merges for accuracy, and build the props list.
Our mission is to remove friction and help releases become faster, smoother, and more predictable.
Six new tools are now live in WordPress/core-release-utils:
